Breathalysers in France: Guidance from The AA
January 2013 - the French government announced that the implementation of the sanction (fine) for drivers not carrying a breathalyser _ a fine of 11 Euros _ has been postponed indefinitely.
So you are still required to carry a self-test breathalyser when driving in France but there is no current legislation demanding a fine for non-compliance.
The original official announcement stated that one unused, certified breathalyser must be produced showing the French certification mark NF. The breathalyser produced has to be in date - single-use breathalysers normally have a validity of twelve months.
July 2015 - the drink drive limit for novice drivers (less than three years driving experience) has been reduced to 0.02%, the same level as that applied to bus/coach drivers.
To comply with the law: You must have an NF approved device, not just any breathalyser will do. AlcoSense Singles are one of only a couple of products worldwide to meet and exceed the NF standard.
Patented crystals inside the tube change colour from yellow to green in the presence of alcohol. The further up the graduated tube the green colour appears the greater the concentration of alcohol. When the green colour change passes through the measurement line, then you've passed the legal limit. Simple!
AlcoSense Singles use a small blow bag to make sure the right volume of deep-lung air passes through the tester. Too little air equals a falsely low reading, too much equals a falsely high reading. Having the blow bag eliminates this issue and helps to give you one of the most accurate disposable breathalyser readings in the marketplace.
Please note: The breathalysers delivered have the single 0.5 marker line only to comply with French regulations, rather than the 3 marker lines shown on the image.
