Mental Health Motorbike - Our chosen Cause

Mental Health Motorbike Charity - GetGeared's chosen cause

GetGeared's chosen cause

Being on a motorcycle makes most riders grin from ear to ear.

It's the sense of freedom and thrill that makes travelling on 2 wheels so special. It is that, which brings us 'bikers' together.

Life can, and does, throw us curve balls.

Most of us can look back and point to periods in our life that were hard to deal with. We all respond differently to those periods - and, some of us really struggle.

Let's take what brings us together to help those that struggle.

That's where Mental Health Motorbike comes in and that's why I am delighted we are working with them.

You can support this cause with a small financial contribution using our platform.

Martin from GetGeared - Qualified Mental Health First Aider

My name is Martin and I have worked at GetGeared for a little over 3 years as a Sales and Product consultant. Prior to this I was in the Fire Service for over 30 years, and then spent 4 years as a Motorcycle Training Instructor. I have been riding for over 40 years and have a passion for bikes and all things motorcycling.

A short time ago, my 'oldest mate' lost his son to suicide. That was my catalyst to do something positive, to offer guidance and support to those struggling, often in silence and feeling alone.

I came across Mental Health Motorbike and saw an opportunity to really get involved. To be able to assist those within the motorcycling community and to offer support to those in need.

Since, I have become a Mental Health First Aider through the charity, and I wear my green MHFA badge proudly. I find that our love for motorcycling is a great conversation starter. Support can start with something as simple as a chat over a 'cuppa' on a bike meet, or to be there to listen and offer guidance, and signpost where to get further support.

Please check out the Mental Health Motorbike website and consider getting involved yourself, perhaps gaining your green MHFA badge and make a difference to those struggling.

Paul - Founder of Mental Health Motorbike

We are very proud to have created the country's first dedicated national mental health charity for the motorbike community. But with this comes great responsibility as we grow in order to support more bikers and their families when it is needed.

We rely on the generous support of other like minded organisations, the motorcycle industry and retailers like GetGeared. We use our donations to subsidise Mental Health First Aid training courses to help bikers support each other (www.mhmotorbike.com/mhfa). We aim to train 1,000 Mental Health First Aiders by the end of 2024.

We encourage bikers to speak out about mental health, this will help reduce the stigma around poor mental health and encourage more bikers to reach out for support.
